About the Richmond Museum Association

In 1954, the Richmond Museum Association (RMA) was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and remains one of the oldest organizations dedicated to preserving the history of Contra Costa County. The RMA is proud to celebrate 70 years of preserving history in 2024.

The RMA administers two historical sites with educational based programs for the benefit of the public including the Richmond Museum of History and Culture and the S.S. Red Oak Victory

The RMA is governed by a board of up to sixteen directors headed by four board officers that forms an executive committee. To know information about the RMA Board of Directors, click here.

The Museum has two paid professional staff and a dedicated team of volunteers. The SS Red Oak Victory ship has a full-time live aboard volunteer and many dedicated volunteers.

Mission

The mission of the Richmond Museum Association (RMA) is to promote and encourage the study and research of Richmond, CA’s history (including the greater Richmond area) and to disseminate knowledge of that history; to collect, preserve, and maintain places of historical interest.

The RMA carries out this mission by operating two venues, the Richmond Museum of History (RMH) and the S.S. Red Oak Victory (ROV).

The RMH is housed in the City’s historic Carnegie Library and is located at 400 Nevin Avenue in Richmond, California.

The ROV is our WWII Victory ship berthed at the Port of Richmond. Both sites are open several days a week and provide educational programming related to local history.
